Diving at Blower’s Hole – Martinique (0-35m)

The Blower’s Hole is a very popular spot in Martinique. And no wonder! A real geological spectacle to discover on land and in the sea. But it is also a place to meet some fish and live a unique experience! We’ll take you there!

What is the Blower’s Hole in Martinique?

The Blower Hole is a small cave at a depth of 3 metres with an air bubble in the ceiling of the cave. A hole connects this air bubble to the surface and when you approach it before diving, you can hear the famous blow hole! A sort of geyser but maritime!

That’s it for the sound… let’s go to the picture! Let’s slide to the bottom of the cave and look out. The spectacle is original: like a cinema screen on which are projected schools of fish.

We walk gently between the rocks and the sand up to about twenty metres before descending along the scree to 30 metres.

What level to dive at the Blower’s Hole?

The level required to dive at Blower’s Hole in Martinique is ideal. Indeed, you can dive whatever your level, whether it is French Diving School (EPF) or PADI. The spot also allows snorkeling and can even be adapted to your very first baptism.

What can you see underwater at the Blower’s Hole?

The Blower’s Hole is the meeting place for sergeant majors, manioc and bogues, which always move in large numbers.

Flying into the schools of small fish is very exhilarating. But searching in all the holes that the scree of the Blower’s Hole offers is not bad either. This will be an opportunity to observe Pomacanthus Paru! This is the French angelfish which, once adult, is very attached to its territory which it defends and on which live between two and five females. The nuptial dance and fertilisation take place at sunset.

And do you know what is special about this fish? It is hermaphroditic: it begins its life as a female and ends it as a male. And this change of sex is accompanied by spectacular changes: as a juvenile, the French angelfish is black with yellow stripes. As it grows, it loses its yellow stripes and its black scales are edged with a very bright yellow.

Another fish with an original transformation is the spotted redhorse or spotted ribbonfish. As a juvenile, its tuft is much longer than its body. As it grows, the tuft shrinks and the body becomes larger. Like the angel fish, it is a somewhat secretive fish that likes to stay hidden under rocks. It comes out at night to feed on crustaceans.
