Diving in Cape Solomon

Cape Solomon is a superb reef made up of enormous rocks placed one on top of the other. So huge that you feel very small when you walk at a depth of 20 metres at the foot of Cape Solomon. And the animals you meet there are often of proportional size to the site.
Huge stingrays lying on the sand at 35 metres, leopard rays swimming through the blue or a large family of snappers that regularly visit us.
What is Cape Solomon in Martinique?
Cap Solomon is an integral part of the Anses d’Arlet commune. It is located in the extension of the morne Baguidi.
Up to a depth of about 15 metres, the first thing you see is large and impressive scree blocks. Then it is a nice slope that becomes really steep from 30 metres. Here the currents become stronger.
But Cape Solomon is also, apart from scuba diving, a superb hiking trail, on land, accessible to the whole family and the ruins of a military battery.
What level to dive at Cape Solomon?
Cap Solomon is perfect and suitable for all levels of scuba diving. You can even enjoy the site in snorkeling mode when doing the land hiking route.
So, whatever your French or PADI level, whether for your first dive or in mask, fins and snorkel mode, do not deprive yourself of the beauty of Cap Salomon.
What can you see while diving at Cape Solomon?
Cape Solomon is an incredible landscape that the clear waters let discover, with superb varieties fixed and the famous fire corals that cover the rock, a true aquatic garden.
The area is particularly rich in diverse underwater species. There are some very beautiful varieties of sponges. It is also one of the richest coral areas in Martinique. Just next to the boat’s anchorage point, a magnificent elk horn coral can be seen. It is easily recognisable with its colonies made up of flattened and branched branches. Very fragile, it is becoming increasingly rare to find it in the Caribbean Sea. We know of only two on our sites in Anse d’Arlet.
And very often, at the foot of this coral, butterfly fish come to play.
It is a fish that does not like solitude and is very often found in couples.
There are a multitude of varieties, including the four-eyed butterfly: two real and two false eyes which become a lure for its predators.
What is the history of the military battery in Cape Solomon?
Did you know that? Cape Solomon is also home to a part of Martinique’s military history. In the middle of the 18th century, a military battery was built while the island of Martinique was occupied by the English. Strategic with the one at Burgos Point, it protected the bay of Grande Anse and any enemy intrusion by sea. Abandoned in 1878, all that remains today are the ruins of the powder magazine and the barracks, which can be seen during the walk.

Our Alpha Plongée centre is located on the beach of Grande Anse d’Arlet, about 200m to the right of the pontoon, looking out to sea. We are in the middle of the pedestrian street that runs along the seafront, between the restaurants “Bidjoul” and “Les Arcades”.
If you decide to join us by car, you can park in the large car park which overlooks the road opposite the grocery shop. It is indicated by a large blue sign. To find us, you just have to cross the road and slip between two rows of houses.
