Diving in the Gardens of Solomon
– Martinique (0-30m)

The Gardens of Solomon are located as an extension of the Piscine de Salomon and Cap Salomon. You can go there during a drift dive, letting yourself be carried by the current.

A site that once again lives up to its name as it is made up of a very pretty coral garden where gorgonians, multicoloured sponges and corals have taken up residence, as well as a beautiful natural aquarium with a variety of fish.

What are the Gardens of Solomon in Martinique?

The Garden of Solomon is a bit of an all-in-one site.

First of all, we start the dive with a garden only a few meters away from Pointe de Salomon. Here, it is a paradise of gorgonians and multicoloured sponges.

Then, the relief becomes more pronounced with different plateaus that gradually rise to a depth of about 25 metres. At each plateau, you will discover different varieties of fauna and flora.

Finally, there is a rocky drop off with many beautiful concretions to discover.

What level to dive at Solomon’s Gardens?

The Garden of Solomon is open to divers of all levels, from PADI to the French Diving School (EPF). You can also practice snorkeling or make your first diving experience here.

What can you see underwater at Solomon’s Gardens?

The Solomon Gardens dive spot is not only suitable for beginners but also for more experienced divers.

An impressive variety of Caribbean coral fish and invertebrates live in the heart of the reef, such as kingfish, triggerfish and parrotfish. There are also schools of larger fish, such as paddlefish. Of course, if you know how to pay attention, you will probably come across a green turtle or a hawksbill turtle (it has a pointed beak to recognize it), the animals so emblematic of our island of Martinique.

One of the characteristic fish of the site of the Solomon Gardens is also the puppet fish. This is a species that deserves attention for several reasons. The puppet fish lives in areas of coral debris and sand. It digs its burrow with its mouth and gradually surrounds it with stones. This is why sometimes only its head is visible. When it is frightened, it takes refuge there by diving tail first, waiting for the threat to go away.

And this is not its only particularity. In fact, in puppet fish, it is the males that incubate the eggs and they do so… in their mouths!
